GEEography

Members of the Gee family were witnesses and participants in the history of this country from the earliest days of colonization. Early colonial records list numerous Gees who came from England and settled in the colonies from New York to Virginia. Many thousands of Americans can trace their lineage back to these early Gees and thousands of these people are connected to one of two major Gee family groups - the descendants of Solomon Gee of Connecticut and the descendants of Charles Gee of Virginia. The descendants of these two men and other colonial Gees spread across this country all the way to California literally leaving their mark on the land as evidenced by the dozens of geographic locations named after them. Many if not most of the sites in the southeastern U.S. are named for the descendants of Charles. Many of the sites in the northeast are possibly named for the descendants of Solomon although I do not as yet have direct evidence of this. As we move westward the history of the locations is mixed between the two groups and possibly descendants of other Gees. I am attempting to research the history of as many of these locations as possible. I am grateful for any historical information or sources that viewers of this page can submit.
