Q: In GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH, you fell through the street, into the mall. Were you hurt?
A: The step made a very big hole for Godzilla to fall down. There was supposed to be a pile for it long enough to sustain my weight in the suit. In first day somehow, the pile was removed and I was a runaway on the board. Then like a tiger in the pit I was put down and got a strong shock overhead and experienced a very heavy concussion. From recovering, Mr. Kawakita said, 'This is OK but why don't you do the second take with pile this time?' On the final cut I noticed that the very first cut was used.
Q: Last year you were in New York. This year you were touring downtown Chicago. Which city do you like best?
A: Chicago, of course!
Q: In the end sequence of GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER, Godzilla takes two oval things. What are these?
A: Eyeballs of Hedorah. Although Hedorah's eyes are red but in the very final sequence Hedorah is dying so his red hair turns into white and he got a dry eye so it is white. Hedorah is very weak in dryness so it is Hedorah's eyes.
Q: Who would you say is Godzilla's greatest foe?
A: As a monster, no competition! Inside of Godzilla, the lack of oxygen is the strongest opponent. I must also confess that they are getting better. The suit used in GODZILLA VS. SPACE GODZILLA is very easy to perform with. The neck is panning and tilting. With this gadget the problem of breathing (is not as bad). The suit employed in GODZILLA VS. SPACE GODZILLA is the best work for me. NOTE: One of the questions posted for Mr. Satsuma from EURO G-CON, which convened in Amsterdam at the same time as G-CON '98 in Chicago was: Which was your favourite Godzilla suit? The next two questions are also from fans at EURO G-CON.
Q: Do you collect any Godzilla toys or any other Godzilla items?
A: I don't collect them myself but many friends and companies send them to me so these items are my collection.
Q: Do you have any favourite American films or actors?
A: Of course! MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, the western made after SEVEN SAMURAI.
Q: During the filming in the suit, about how much weight would you lose in one week?
A: At the early stage, when you are not so familiar with the monster acting, you will lose about two or three kg in the shooting. Because you consume unnecessary muscle power or your mental feeling of being compressed or just the pressure. So this forces body heat and physical and mental factors. So you would lose about 3 kg. Then you get familiar with monster acting or performing in the suit. So the last stage, the last series, the Heisai series, I just lost about 2 kg and no unnecessary fatigue because I just invented a way of breathing and new types of stretching. At the first stage or for the beginners in the shooting of the monster suits, you lose your weight very radically but with some experience you lose very little of it.
Q: Who is controlling the eyes and mouth of Godzilla?
A: It is stuffed with remote control. Remote control.
Q: What would you have done if you had been offered to help play the role of the Tri-Star Godzilla? NOTE: Another question posted from EURO G-CON.
A: If they call me at the stage which is before the design was finished, I would do very nice job for them. It is a bit too late.
