Descendants of Henry Gee and Elizabeth Darden Gee



Joshua Gee son of Henry & Elizabeth dies about 1806 and leaves no will, thus his parents become heirs of his land. Henry dies sometime after 1810 thus his widow Elizabeth becomes the sole heir to some land Joshua owned. Elizabeth remarries to Joshua Hardy and has 2 more children. She died before 3-16-1816 and the children of Henry are now heirs too. So 1/2 of the land goes to Hardy's children and 1/2 to Henry's children or their descendents.

Fletcher, at the end of The Gee Family, placed an Errata that involved the descendants of Henry Gee but appears to be incorrect. The record of the Lunenburg Court, March 16, 1816, ordered that the land of Joshua Gee, deceased, son of Henry be divided one half to Joshua Hardy. The other half to be divided among Joshua's living brothers and sisters. The actual record obtained from the Library of Virginia gives the descendants of Henry Gee and Elizabeth Darden Gee. Henry's children as mentioned in the land division in 1816 are as follows:

  1. Benjamin (son in Henry's will)
  2. Drury (son in Henry's will)
  3. Matthew (son in Henry's will)
  4. Rebecca, wife of Charles Gee (Becky in Henry's will)
  5. Thomas (son in Henry's will)
  6. Henry (son in Henry's will)
  7. Nancy (daughter in Henry's will)
  8. Martha G. Estes wife of Edmund md. in 1814. This is her 2nd md. She was 1st md. to John Ragsdale in 1792 (in Henry's will as g.d. Martha Ragsdale). Note Martha Estes is the niece of Matthew son of Henry. Her father was probably Nathan Gee who died before 4-22-1810, since he was security on her md. bond to Ragsdale.
  9. George Gee (son in Henry's will; died between 4-22-1810 & 3-16-1816)

    1. Elizabeth Inge wife of Vincent
    2. James
    3. John
    4. Polly
    5. Henry
    6. Benjamin
    7. Nancy
    The last two children were infants in 1816.

  10. Charles Gee (decd. before 4-22-1810) His wife was possibly Lizzie Skinner md.1789, but this was probably his 2nd md. This could be the Charles Gee mentioned by Fletcher in The Gee Family, p. 54, item "i". His children were:

    1. Elizabeth Moore (in Henry's will as Betsy Jennings Moore) wife of Elisha
    2. James Gee
