Lineage of Anderson Gee



The following material was compiled by Bob Skinner, ggg grandson of Anderson Gee.

Anderson Gee was born 1793/4 in Halifax County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Torian b. ca. 1800 in Halifax Co., VA, d/o Andrew Torian on Jan. 31, 1823 in Halifax County. Elizabeth d. Septemeber 6, 1841. By 1833 Anderson Gee was in Christian County, Kentucky where he married the widow of Harrison Guthrie, Martha Torian Guthrie b. ca. 1805 - 1808, on July 4, 1842. Martha who died after 1870 was the sister of Anderson's first wife, Elizabeth. Anderson was father to 11 children, several of which moved to Graves County, Kentucky. Anderson died between 1870 and 1880.

The father of Anderson Gee was Charles Gee. The only Gee listed in the 1800 Halifax Co. tax list is Charles Gee. Charles married Sarah Seaman d/o John Seaman Sr. who moved to Halifax County, VA from Berkely County, VA in the late 1780's.

Andrew Torian b 1760, Halifax Co., Va, son of Peter Torian (will 1812 Halifax Co.), m 1785 Anna/Anne/Nancy Blackwell. They had 16-17 children. Their dau., Nancy, b. ca. 1799 m. 11 Oct 1838, Christian Co., KY, (Charles) Henry Gee. 1850 census of Christian Co. (Charles) Henry is age 54 b. VA. Thomas Malone, 56, black, living with them in 1850.

William Torian, bro. of Nancy, Elizabeth and Martha, m. Elizabeth Guthrie. In 1870 they are living with Anderson in Christian County, KY. Living with Anderson in 1850 is Harrison Guthrie, age 19, b Va and Cayson Guthrie, age 90. Guthries from Halifax Co.

Halifax Co., Va. Records
(all records below are the only ones in the county for Gees during this time period)

Estate of Henry Gee appraised in 1781/2. His small estate includes 2 spelling books. There are no records of heirs.

1785 census lists John Seaman with 10 white souls; he came from Berkley Co., Va. (now W. V.)

1791 Charles Gee provides sur. for marriage of Thomas Seamon (Sr.).

1792 A deed mentions that the land was previously owned by Joseph Gee Jr.

1799 Robert Gee md. Eliz. Puckett

1800 Tax List has Charles Gee & Seaman men.

In 1814 John Seaman's will mentions sons Thomas & Richard, son-in-law George Godbey, daughter-in-law Sally (Sarah) Seamans, daughter Sally (Sarah) Gee and grandsons Anderson Gee & Charles Gee.

In 1816 Thomas Seamans md. Elizabeth Gee, daughter of Sarah Gee who consents Thomas was the son of Thomas Sr. above.

In 1818 Jeremiah Seamans md. Sarah Gee Jr.; Sur. & Wit. Thomas Seamans; Sarah Gee (Sr.), guardian consents Jeremiah was also a son of Thomas Sr.

In 1819 Elisha Griffin md. Sarah Gee. This is probably Anderson's mother as Elisha is listed on the 1800 Tax List i.e. greater than 40 yrs. old by 1819.

Charles Gee is in Halifax by 1791. It appears as though he md. Sarah (Sally) Seaman in early 1790's. From the above will we see that Sarah (Sr.) & Thomas (Sr.). are sister & brother & Charles had ties to Thomas.. They probably had at least the following children: Anderson, Charles, Elizabeth & Sarah. By 1814 Charles Sr. is dead.

NOTE:
In every known record where the younger brother of Anderson gives his name, he always calls himself Henry, but in John Seaman's will he's referred to as Charles possibly because his real name is Charles Henry.
